Buying the Subfloor For Your Airstream

We’ve had some questions from our readers asking if we would post an update on our subfloor replacement. Sorry about the crickets…it didn’t happen. Yet.

If you’re visiting because you’re about to rip the floor out of your Airstream with the shell on, visit our detailed post about that, here. We’ve included a step-by-step guide of the process and photos of our smelly, rotten floor.

So yes, we haven’t replaced the floor yet, but we’re one step closer! We took a trip to Traverse City a couple months ago and purchased the plywood.

There are a lot of different schools of thought on which wood to use, but in the end, we chose to go with 3/4″ treated plywood and we’ll be using 1″ foamboard underneath for insulation.

For now, the floor is drying out in our garage but soon we’ll be able to start getting the flooring back in and that’s when things will/should get fun again.

We’ll keep you updated as we start getting the floor put in!

  1. We’ve read somewhere about folks using “marine grade” plywood. I’m assuming that’s the same as treated plywood, but haven’t really researched it yet. Are you guys going to paint the subfloor with a waterproof paint also?
